Salt the Threshold

Salt the Threshold is my final Masters project at Central. It will be Form(at) Festival at Camden People’s Theatre on September 7th and 8th.

It is the story of a couple clinging to normality when everything that was once familiar is redefined in preternatural terms. It starts small: aching shoulders, strange leaks, and things that go bump in the night. But before long, it becomes impossible to ignore as their understanding of home disintegrates around them, and they have no idea how to stop it.

Devised by the company for two actors and a puppet, the piece runs at around 1hr 45mins, and explores ideas of (un)familiarity through both disintergrating theatrical forms and a spiralling domestic narrative, moving through styles and genres like something sloughing off its skin.

Part folklore, part kitchen sink drama and part love story, Salt the Threshold is an intimate and urgent exploration of what it means to love someone you don't recognise any more.
